Dear brothers of Zeta Phi Rho,
Hello, my name is Michelle Cheng and I am UCLA’s Theta Kappa Phi’s Fundraising Chair for 2009-2010. Theta Kappa Phi would like to formally invite you to be one of the competitors at our annual Battle of the Pledge Dances.
If you don’t already know, Theta Kappa Phi holds a dance competition every year called “Battle of the Pledge Dances,” in which pledge classes from different fraternities and sororities showcase their dance skills in an original routine on stage. Pledge classes battle it out for the first place trophy and of course, for the right to claim the title as champions. In general, the night is filled with friendly competition, amazing dance routines from competitors and exhibitionists, and lots of fun.
Battle is extremely important to our sorority not only because it is our biggest fundraiser, but it is also our biggest philanthropy of the year. Our founding mother, Margaret Ohara Shinohara, died of breast cancer several years ago and a large portion of our proceeds are donated to the EIF Revlon Run/Walk for Women. Revlon Run/Walk is a 5k Run/Walk that raises money for breast cancer research, counseling, and outreach. The sisters of Theta Kappa Phi participate in the marathon every year and it is a very enriching experience.
Every year, approximately 300 people attend the performances and we would sincerely appreciate it if you could place it on your activities calendar. This year, Battle will take place on Saturday, February 27, 2010. The location is still to be determined, but will be in the Los Angeles area. It would mean so much to us if your organization could take the time to perform, attend, or simply support our cause at our 13th annual Battle of the Pledge Dances.
The rules of the competition are as follows:
I. The competition is open to any pledge class of the current academic year. For instance, if a class crossed in Fall, they are allowed to compete. Classes that crossed previous years do not qualify (with an exception below).
II. If there are 5 or fewer members from one pledge class, they have the option of forming a crew with members of the fraternity or sorority for whom they are pledging. All current pledges must be on the crew for this to be allowed.
III. If there are 6 or more participants (not pertaining to the option stated above), each participant must be from the same pledge class.
IV. Each pledge class must attempt and perform an ORIGINAL pledge dance routine to the best of their ability.
Please notify me if you wish to participate by January 8, 2009. I will send out more information as I receive it. If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you!
Best wishes,
Michelle Cheng

To the distinguished brothers of our Iota Colony,
On behalf of the Brothers of Zeta Phi Rho, Theta Chapter, at the University of California, Riverside, I would like to extend an invitation to the Zeta Phi Rho All Chapter Beer Pong Tournament, on Saturday, November 14, 2009. This will be an exceptionally fun event and is open to all the brothers from each of our 9 chapters. The event will be hosted in Riverside, CA, and will be $10 a team ($5 for each participant). This is strictly a brotherhood event, so we ask that you do not bring any persons who are not Zetas. We have found out recently that one of our brothers from another chapter has become seriously ill. Due to that unfortunate news, we have decided to donate any proceeds made from the event to his respective family. We would then greatly appreciate your support, attendance, and any donations you may have to offer. I look forward to hearing from you soon as I will be contacting you for how many teams will be participating. With that, I look forward to seeing you brothers this Saturday. If you have any questions whatsoever, feel free to contact me via e-mail or on my cell phone.
YILAD,
John De La Merced
